Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, dismissed the no confidence motion against Vice president Jagdeep Dhankar on Thursday. In his ruling, he called the motion moved by the INDI alliance to be “severely flawed” and “bereft of facts.”
Earlier on December 10, at least 60 opposition MP’s had signed the notice seeking the removal of Jagdeep Dhankar from his post. They alleged him of having a biased attitude.
“Severely Flawed, Drawn In Haste..”
Rajya Sabha secretary general PC Mody, tabled the ruling in the house. In his ruling the Deputy Chairman said that it was an act of impropriety, being severely flawed and drawn in haste to mar his reputation.
The ruling states, “The notice is held as an act of impropriety, severely, flawed, apparently drawn in haste and hurry to mar the reputation of the incumbent Vice President and aimed to damage the constitutional institution. The same deserves to be and is hereby dismissed.”

The deputy Chairman further pointed out that the motion was not in proper format as per the provision of the Constitution and Rules of the Rajya Sabha. As per rules, a no confidence motion requires a 14 day notice period. However, when the notice was issued only 10 days were left in the winter session.
He ruled the notice to be “personally targeted”, “bereft of facts” and aimed at securing publicity. He called it “misadventure” in “deliberate trivialising and demeaning” the high constitutional office of Vice President of the largest democracy.
Congress Reacts..
Soon after the dismissal ruling, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, accused Harivansh of taking “liberties with facts.” In a post on X, he tweeted, “The ruling given by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha today on the motion of no confidence in the Chairman submitted by INDIA parties contains a reference to some remarks made by me in a press conference held on Dec 12, 2024. This reference takes liberties with facts – to put it mildly.”
