The CBI, which is investigating the brutal rape and murder case of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata has expressed serious concerns over the Post-Mortem and Autopsy report. According to the CBI investigators there are a number of severe injuries on the victim’s body which have been underreported.
Mass Beating?
Reportedly, there are a number of severe marks and scars on the deceased’s body which are indicative of Mass beating. The investigators claim that there are around 26 severe injuries and scars on the victim’s body which indicate involvement of more than one assaulter. They are of the opinion that it is impossible for anyone to inflict such injuries alone. According to them, the initial objective of the assaulters was to kill the victim. The rape incident might have been highlighted just to fog the investigation.
Apparently, the autopsy report listed only 15 injuries and 9 internal injuries. However, the injuries on the back of the body have been omitted. This omission and lack of documentation and has made the officials question the legitimacy and the credibility of the reports. They suspect the reports to be misleading.
Anomalies In Autopsy Report
Earlier, the CBI had pointed out the procedural flaws in the autopsy process. Reportedly, the autopsy was done within just one hour and 10 minutes that too after sunset on August 9. They consider this to be a rushed timeframe considering the sensitivity and the gravity of the case. Anandabazar Patrika reported an investigating officer saying ” 8 bodies were autopsied that day at the RG Kar morgue. All 7 before sunset. Only the body of the doctor student was autopsied after the sunset.” Reportedly, the autopsy report, lacked proper medical terms that are generally used to describe the state of the body. The agency had also raised concerns about quality of videography of the autopsy process.
Furthermore, the judicial magistrate had only 20 mins to examine the body and prepare an inquest report. Investigators believe that the rushed approach was probably to cremate the body the same night to prevent a second post mortem report.
Meanwhile, the sources of the investigators claim that the ‘crime scene’ of the seminar hall is not consistent with the injury marks, Anandabazar Patrika reported. Questions are being raised that when the victim was attacked in such a brutal manner then how come the items in the seminar hall were not in disarray? Reportedly, the items including mobile phone, laptop, shattered glasses were neatly placed behind the deceased’s head. The investigators believe that the probability of the victim being murdered elsewhere and then the body was arranged in the seminar hall cannot be ruled out.
As the investigation continues, the officers are determined to uncover the truth behind these discrepancies.
