Once again, the Waqf Board has exposed its arrogance and disregard for constitutional norms. This time, it’s the quiet village of Kattukollai in Vellore district, Tamil Nadu. Over 150 Hindu families—who have farmed this land for four generations—now face eviction threats under a shocking Waqf claim.
Eviction by Decree—No Proof, No Process
Villagers in Kattukollai woke up to eviction notices issued by the Syed Ali Sultan Shah Dargah, asserting their land as Waqf property. They were ordered to either vacate immediately or start paying rent to the dargah authorities. No court hearing, no consultation—only a notice demanding obedience.
These families hold valid, government-issued land documents (patta). But Waqf doesn’t care about legality or due process. For them, the law seems optional.
When villagers marched to the Vellore Collector’s office, supported by Hindu Munnani, they demanded justice and legal clarity. Leader Mahesh asked the obvious: “If villagers have government-issued documents, how can Waqf suddenly claim ownership?”
The government remains silent. That silence is dangerous.
The Waqf (Amendment) Act: Ignored and Violated?
Just weeks ago, Parliament passed the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, explicitly aiming to curb arbitrary Waqf’s claims. It removed the controversial “Waqf by user” clause, which allowed properties to be declared Waqfs without legal documents.
The Act clearly states: Only property legally owned and donated by practicing Muslims can be declared Waqf. Yet, in blatant defiance, the Tamil Nadu Waqf’s Board continues its unchecked aggression—ignoring the law and the Constitution.
Why enact laws if they’re openly ignored?
West Bengal Shows the Danger of Unchecked Waqf Aggression
Ignoring Waqf’s aggression doesn’t just threaten property—it endangers lives. West Bengal recently saw violent riots triggered by opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act. Hindu families were forced to flee, leaving ancestral homes behind in fear. This wasn’t isolated—it was systematic intimidation.
Is Tamil Nadu next? Does the DMK government want such chaos here?
The silence from Chief Minister MK Stalin and his administration hints at dangerous complicity. They refuse to protect citizens’ rights against this blatant land grab.
Tamil Nadu’s Choice: Constitutional Rights or Waqf Dominance
This Kattukollai crisis is no mere property dispute—it’s a direct challenge to the constitutional rights of citizens. It’s a test of governance: Will the Tamil Nadu administration protect its citizens, or will it yield to the Waqf’s extralegal demands?
This village represents something larger. It’s about whether Hindus in Tamil Nadu—and indeed, India—have equal rights or are second-class citizens in their own land.
Enough Is Enough: Stand Up Now, or Lose Forever
The people of Tamil Nadu must realize: today it’s Kattukollai, yesterday it was Tiruchendurai. Tomorrow it could be your village, your temple, your home.
The central government must enforce the new Waqf Amendment Act strictly and swiftly. Legal rights must prevail over religious bullying. If not, Tamil Nadu risks falling victim to the same violence and displacement that’s devastated West Bengal.
