PM Modi Receives Kuwait’s Highest Civilian Honour!

Recently, Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, honoured Prime Minister Modi with the country’s highest civilian award, the ‘Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer,’ at Bayan Palace. The order of Mubarak Al Kabeer is a knighthood order of Kuwait. The country traditionally awards it to the heads of state and members of royal families as a mark of friendship.

On receiving the award, PM Modi took to X and expressed his regards to the Amir of Kuwait. He also dedicated the honour to the people of India. “I am honoured to be conferred the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Order by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. I dedicate this honour to the people of India and to the strong friendship between India and Kuwait,” he tweeted.

The ministry of external affairs in a press release hailed the conferment as historic. “The conferment of the award on this historic visit of a Prime Minister of India to Kuwait after 43 years added a special meaning to the occasion.” Notably, before PM Modi, it last Indian prime minister who visited Kuwait was Indira Gandhi in 1981.

With this recognition, PM Modi took the tally of global honours which he has received to 20. He also joined the likes of US president Biden and King Charles III, who have been the previous recipients of this award.

Last month, Guyana conferred its highest national award, ‘The Order of Excellence,’ on PM Modi. He had also recently received Dominica’s highest national honour. This too he had dedicated to the 140 crore people of India.

Apart from Kuwait, other Muslim nations which have honoured PM Modi are- Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan (2016), Maldives (2019), UAE (2019), Bahrain (2019)and Egypt (2023).
