The Alleged Terror Links..
On Thursday, INSIGHT UK had sent a formal letter to the Oxford Union raising strong objection against the debate with speakers having terror links. The letter stated, “On 11 November 2024, the Oxford Union released a post notifying Mr. Zafar Khan of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front’ and Mr. Muzzamil Ayyub Thakur as speakers for this debate.”
The letter clearly mentions the terror links of the speakers and the terrorist/criminal activities carried out by JKLF. The letter states Mr. Zafar Khan as the chairman of of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Diplomatic Bureau. It points that JKLF is a designated terrorist organisation. Further, it highlights how JKLF linked terrorists had abducted and murdered former Indian diplomat Ravindra Mhatre in 1984 in U.K. In addition, the letter also points the organisations role in the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus in 1990.
The letter further mentions the terror links of Muzzammil Ayyub and his engagement in hate speech against Indians and Hindus. It also states his connections with Islamic terror groups that has been charged for instigating acts of violence. “Muzammil is the president of the “World Kashmir Freedom Movement” which along with another organisation called “Mercy Universal”, was founded by his father and investigated by Scotland Yard, the Charity Commission and the FBI for ties with terrorists,” the letter reads.
Towards the end, Indian students emphasised that Jammu and Kashmir is undeniably an integral part of India. A fact recognised by the UN and international community since its legal accession to India in 1947. It added that any debate on its status as an integral part of India is, by extension, an interference in India’s sovereignty.
Not The First Time…
Interestingly, the Oxford Union has largely remained silent on the many burning issues like Pakistan’s deep state and terrorism. It hasn’t debated on pressing issues like the condition of minorities in Pakistan or the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits. But finds time to give platform to people who are terror sympathisers.
Earlier, the Oxford Union invited Film Director Vivek Agnihotri to debate the topic, “The House Believes in an Independent State of Kashmir. Mr Agnihotri had declined the invitation stating he ‘Felt very offended.’
In a post on X, Agnihotri tweeted, “I was invited by the prestigious Oxford Union to debate on Kashmir. I found the theme offensive, anti-India, and anti-Kashmir. On principle, I have declined the offer. PFA my decline letter.”
In a letter to the Oxford Union he said, “I find it not just obnoxious but offensive– not just to 1.4 billion Indians but also as a humiliation of hundreds of thousands of displaced Indigenous Hindu victims of the Kashmir genocide of 1990. Framing it as a debate feels like turning a tragedy into a parlor game where the stakes are human lives and the cost is in the blood, not just ink.”
He further stated that orgainising such a debate was a direct challenge to India’s sovereignty.

Earlier, Rashmi Samant, the first female Indian President-elect of Oxford University Student’s Union was vilified and forced to resign from her post. Reportedly, she was targeted for being a Hindu and for her views against British colonisation. One of the faculty members in Oxford had even dragged and abused her parents for having a Shri Ram’s display picture on their social media accounts.
Even an internal investigation by Oxford University had confirmed that Samant was indeed a victim of bullying and vilification. The Union External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar had to raised the matter in the Upper House of Parliament.
Notably,
These are just a few incidents but they do raise concerns over the University grounds being used to peddle propagandas. Further there is a need to recognise the toolkit agenda of the western countries to maintain their hegemony.
In conclusion, the statement of EAM S. Jaishankar is noteworthy. He had said that it is the colonial mindset towards India that continues to remain in force. This has not changed as yet. It is difficult for them to accept that the country they ruled for centuries has now surpassed them in economic growth. Bharat is on its way of becoming the world’s third largest democracy. Since they are unable to digest this, they use such means to try and drag us back. The momentum of the country is now unstoppable, and you can create all the hurdles you want, he had said.
