Reportedly, on the night of 29th December 2024, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) swung into once more. The area faced multiple anti-enchroachment drives in the last year. This time the bulldozer action was initiated to clear illegal encroachments near Ghantaghar in Hussainabad. The prime target? A 5,000-square-foot plot allegedly claimed by locals as “ancestral land.” A “peaceful” named Tauheed argued that his family had documents dating back to 1862 to prove ownership. Rizwan, another local “peaceful,” echoed similar claims. “peaceful” Rizwan also hinted at ties to a former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC).

In a separate operation, Lucknow’s municipal authorities launched a crackdown in the Indira Priyadarshini Ward. Allegedly illegal settlements and businesses run by Bangladeshi nationals had mushroomed.

The action was prompted by a shocking incident where municipal workers were assaulted by Bangladeshi settlers during an anti-encroachment drive. Female civic workers faced physical attacks, forcing the Mayor, Municipal Commissioner, and Joint Police Commissioner to intervene with a heavy police force.

“This is Lucknow Municipal Corporation, not ‘Bangladesh.’ Illegal Bangladeshi encroachments will not be tolerated,” Mayor Kharkwal declared firmly.

She directed immediate bulldozer action, ensuring the illegal settlements and makeshift shanties were demolished. The Mayor emphasized the need for law and order, stating, “The city will not allow illegal activities to flourish. Whether it’s unauthorized settlements or violent attacks on our civic workers, strict action will follow.” She also announced measures to prioritize the safety of municipal employees, vowing that such assaults would never be tolerated again.

The bulldozer has become a symbol of law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh. The recent encroachment drives and operations reinforce the state’s commitment to maintaining civic order.

The message is clear: no matter the claims of dubious ancestry or nationality, illegal encroachments, and violent resistance will face swift and decisive action.

Lucknow’s residents are tired of clogged roads, traffic jams, and unchecked lawlessness. Thus, honest citizens have welcomed these measures. The municipal corporation has also urged citizens to report illegal activities, emphasizing that strict action will follow.

The bulldozer is more than a machine – it’s a message to those flouting the law. In Lucknow, the roar of the bulldozer speaks louder than words: illegal encroachments, no matter how entrenched, have no place in a city striving for order and justice.
