Over 100 people, including 40 children, became sick after consuming biryani at a political event organized by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party in Tamil Nadu on Friday. The event included a general meeting for DMK members, during which welfare items were distributed to the public.
After the event, attendees were served biryani, and some took portions home to share with their families. Shortly after eating the meal, many individuals began experiencing symptoms of food poisoning. People reported vomiting, nausea, and general discomfort. They rushed to the Villur Primary Healthcare Centre for immediate medical attention.
Emergency Response
As more individuals fell ill, local health authorities responded quickly by mobilizing additional resources. Ten ambulances transported the sick to hospitals in nearby Virudhunagar and Kallikudi. Medical teams were on high alert, working to manage the sudden surge of patients, especially the children.
Hospital sources suggested that the food had spoiled, causing widespread food poisoning. Medical personnel are currently treating those affected, and no life-threatening conditions have been reported so far.
Investigation UnderwayÂ
Thirumangalam Police have started investigating the incident. Early reports indicate potential contamination or improper storage of the biryani served at the event. The authorities are conducting further inquiries to identify the exact cause and prevent similar incidents in the future.
This incident has raised concerns about food safety protocols at large public events. Given that over 100 people, including children, were affected, the authorities are expected to take strict action to ensure such incidents do not happen again.
