It’s a scene straight out of a satirical play. A reporter walks the street of Lucknow to show visuals showing Muslim women braving the heat clutching forms and receipts. They stand in front of the Congress party office, hoping for money in their accounts. The gullible voters and women truly believed the grandiose promises of the I.N.D.I.A.
Seemingly, the naive women of the ‘peaceful’ and poor communities voted for a financial miracle! However, unfortunately for them, the Congress led INDI-Alliance secured only 234 seats. Thus, as the NDA firms its bonds with its alliance partners, those promises by Congress might just remain empty words.
What Was The Congress Ki Guarantee?
Congress promised Rs 2,000 per month under the Mahalakshmi scheme in Karnataka. And it delivered the same at the cost of development. This promise had also sparked a mad rush by women voters to open bank accounts. Inspired by the success in Karnataka, they promised a similar yet more grand scheme in UP.
Women were promised a whopping 1 lac as a bank deposit. The mantra was Khata-khat and Taka-tak. These chants resonated with a belief in instant financial relief. One that was just a vote away. However, with a fractured mandate favoring the BJP, these gullible women are left standing in queues, waiting for money that may never come.
The INDI-Alliance 235 and Naive Voters
Despite their unexpected gains, the INDI-Alliance didn’t win enough to stake a claim. Thus, they remain unable to fulfill their promises. The BJP-led NDA won 292 seats and is in talks with its partners to form the next government. So the question is how will the INDI-Alliance explain to their voters why their grand guarantees remain unfulfilled? It seems that the naive voters want instant gratification.
