Justice Subramonium Prasad, presiding over the case, instructed Google LLC (YouTube), Meta (Facebook & Instagram), and X Corp (formerly Twitter) to delete the video and block further sharing. The court also prohibited Shyam Meera Singh from republishing or posting the video on any other platform.

Before the court’s order, the video, uploaded on February 24, 2025, had accumulated 937,000 views, 65,000 likes, and 13,000 comments.

Isha Foundation’s Defamation Suit and Allegations

The Isha Foundation, founded by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, filed a defamation suit against Shyam Meera Singh, accusing him of spreading false, misleading, and malicious allegations.

Singh’s video claims that minor girls at the Isha Foundation school undergo religious rituals in a bare-bodied state, allegedly in the presence of senior ashram members. The Isha Foundation strongly refuted these claims, calling them baseless and defamatory, intended to tarnish the organization’s reputation.

Court documents reveal that on February 19, 2025, Shyam Meera Singh emailed the Isha Foundation, informing them about his upcoming video and requesting responses to certain questions. Despite this exchange, he proceeded to publish the video on February 24, just days before the Maha Shivratri festival, one of the Isha Foundation’s most significant annual events. The foundation argued that he timed the release strategically to incite public outrage and damage their reputation.

Why the Court Ordered the Takedown Shyam Meera

The Delhi High Court, while issuing its interim order, cited several key reasons for removing the video:

  • The video made serious allegations against Isha Foundation and Sadhguru without providing verified evidence.
  • The accusations appeared defamatory and posed a significant risk to the foundation’s reputation.
  • Allowing unverified content to circulate could mislead the public.

Given these concerns, the court ordered the immediate removal of the video and restricted further distribution.

Shyam Meera Singh’s Previous Legal Issues

Shyam Meera Singh has faced legal action over defamatory content in the past.

In January 2024, the Delhi High Court ordered him to delete a video about Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, ruling that the content was prima facie defamatory. However, the court allowed him to re-upload a modified version with a disclaimer, attributing the claims to a trial court judgment and journalist Anurag Tripathi’s book.

This previous ruling may have influenced the High Court’s decision in the Isha Foundation case, as Singh has a history of posting controversial content without verified sources.

Upcoming Legal Proceedings

The court has scheduled a detailed hearing on July 9, 2025, to further investigate the case. However, the application for interim relief will be heard sooner, on May 9, 2025.

If the Isha Foundation proves defamation, Shyam Meera Singh could face permanent restrictions on posting similar content, along with legal and financial penalties.

For now, the Delhi High Court’s order ensures that the video remains inaccessible, pending the final verdict.
