 Bhagavad Gita’s Call to Valour

Must Read

Discouragement, brokenness, is not the nature of the best person.  Arjuna was devastated when he saw his own people on the opposing side in the Battle of Kurukshetra.Lord Krishna then gave him a kind of rebuke.

śhrī bhagavān uvācha
kutastvā kaśhmalamidaṁ viṣhame samupasthitam
anārya-juṣhṭamaswargyam akīrti-karam arjuna  —(Gita 2/2)

Translation– Lord Bhagavån said : Arjuna, how has this infatuation overtaken you at this odd hour? It is shunned by noble souls; neither will it bring heaven, nor fame to you.

klaibyaṁ mā sma gamaḥ pārtha naitat tvayyupapadyate
kṣhudraṁ hṛidaya-daurbalyaṁ tyaktvottiṣhṭha parantapa  —(Gita 2/3)

Translation:-O Parth, it does not befit you to yield to this unmanliness. Give up such petty weakness of heart and arise, O vanquisher of enemies.

Cowardice is cowardice. Whether it is out of pity or fear. Therefore, one should always be ready to defend one’s own rights and interests. Injustice should be remedied. Apart from this, one should choose courage, not escape.

evaṁ buddheḥ paraṁ buddhvā sanstabhyātmānam ātmanā
jahi śhatruṁ mahā-bāho kāma-rūpaṁ durāsadam  — (Gita 3/43)

Translation:-Thus knowing the soul to be superior to the material intellect, O mighty armed Arjun, subdue the lower self (senses, mind, and intellect) by the higher self (strength of the soul), and kill this formidable enemy called lust.

swa-dharmam api chāvekṣhya na vikampitum arhasi
dharmyāddhi yuddhāch chhreyo ’nyat kṣhatriyasya na vidyate (Gita 2/31)

Translation:-Besides, considering your duty as a warrior, you should not waver. Indeed, for a warrior, there is no better engagement than fighting for upholding of righteousness.

hato vā prāpsyasi swargaṁ jitvā vā bhokṣhyase mahīm
tasmād uttiṣhṭha kaunteya yuddhāya kṛita-niśhchayaḥ  (Gita 2/37)

Translation:- If you fight, you will either be slain on the battlefield and go to the celestial abodes, or you will gain victory and enjoy the kingdom on earth. Therefore arise with determination, O son of Kunti, and be prepared to fight.Give up this delusion and fight. Where Dharma(religion) is defeated, unrighteousness flourishes; culture is defeated, unculture flourishes; the most worthy person is oppressed, and the unworthy person is established; there is no choice but to fight. The way we see India today is the result of the sacrifices of our ancestors. If Guru Gobind Singh, Veer Shivaji, Maharana Pratap, etc. had not sacrificed their lives, we would not have seen our country as we see it today. In the Gita, the Yogeshwara Shri Krishna, through the form of Arjuna, told us that if we have to sacrifice our lives to save culture and religion by giving up fear, cowardice, and inaction, then do so, but there is no use living like a dead person. Death is not just the separation of the soul from the body. If you remain silent despite knowing that your culture and religion are being attacked, that too should be called death. The only difference is that the former is the death of the body, and the latter is the death of the soul. The one who suppresses the protest that arises from his inner self against injustice is called a “suicide”.

asuryā nāma te lokā andhena tamasāvṛtāḥ |
tāṃste pretyābhigacchanti ye ke cātmahano janāḥ   — (yajurveda-3/40)

Such suicides are called asuras, rakshasas, etc. who are shrouded in the darkness of ignorance. Those who see injustice right in front of their eyes but pass by are called suicides. They do not take human birth after death, but rather go to the realm of the dead. One day or another, everyone has to die. He who dies in vain has wasted his life. No one remembers him. But the great man lives in the heart of the people. It is not good to sit thinking that God will come as an incarnation and save us. If Shri Krishna himself came to save us as an incarnation, then why did he inspire Arjuna to fight while he was alive? Why didn’t he himself kill the enemies? There is no use in sitting around thinking about incarnations(Avatars). We have to think about ourselves. No one will come to save us here. As you build, so it turns out. Nothing fails. If you plant a mango tree, you will be born in a mango garden. If you plant an acacia tree, you will be born on a thorn. The reason for being born in this environment is our karma. We have indulged in injustice somewhere or other. We have to suffer the consequences today. The seeds we sow today, the weeds we allow to grow, we will have to enjoy the fruits of our actions in the future. God is just. He makes us receive the fruits of our actions in due time. Therefore, we have to build heaven ourselves, remove the thorns in the road. We cannot avoid them. We have to protest against injustice, fight against unrighteousness. Because if we avoid unrighteousness to protect culture, to protect Dharma, unrighteousness will increase even more. Then your next generation will suffer its consequences. Death is happening constantly. Who remembers whom? We die like the missing. Does this death have any meaning? Death should be like that of the servant Bairagi. Death, like that of Guru Teg Bahadur. If we die to save our Dharma, we will become immortal. Seeing my death, thousands of lives will be ready to sacrifice themselves, for their country, for their Dharma and for their culture. Maharishi Manu said – Dharma protects the one who protects Dharma.Dharma kills the one who kills Dharma. So don’t remain dumb like a mute animal. Stand up against injustice and unrighteousness. Roar, Ishwara is with you.
